Peter King from Kings Cars has been a supporter of Fifteen Trees since July 2010. Over that time he has helped plant almost 3500 trees in Ballarat district. This time round his trees (315) were planted across 6 sites, all managed by Landcare volunteers and/or environmental educators.At Woady Yalloak, Chris Grigg, planted 105 trees with the generous support of Kings Cars. Chris writes “The plains country of Mannibadar offers wide vistas of grassland, broken with large plantations of sugar gums (which were planted in the 1920’s). The opportunity to participate in Fifteen Trees has kick started tree planting on the property Langfields. The trees this year were planted in a reserve which will tie in nicely with the wildlife refuge I have planned for 2015. Bec McCandish and Kathy Quinert both received 30 trees each to plant on their bush property. Both women are striving to return their blocks back into healthy native reserves. Kathy writes “Our trees were planted two weekends ago and are doing well. Thank you so much for the trees. The birds and wildlife thank you too. I grew the tube stock on a little before planting and all are staked and protected with water bags. The tube stock from Kareelah Bush Nursery was so healthy and the staff super helpful. Thanks again for these trees. At Leigh Creek, Glen and Elizabeth Aldous write “We are hoping to achieve some really nice areas for the bird life and to see if we can encourage the kangaroos to return to a nice safe area with plenty of cover for them to relax in as we use to get 2 to 3 dozen kangaroos in on a regular basis. And finally, Sarah Page (environmental teacher at Villa Maria) planted 60 trees at Yendon. Sarah won Environmental Teacher of the Year and has a passion to educate the young about how to look after our native environment.
