We are delighted to announce that Canopy Fitouts recently purchased 500 trees for one of our favourite Melbourne sites – Westgate Park, Port Melbourne. And as an added bonus, on Friday June 25th, the team joined us and Friends of Westgate Park, on site, to plant the trees.

Westgate Park is a ‘work in process’ with the volunteers working to transform the park into a natural bushland for all of Melbourne to enjoy. The addition of 500 native plants will certainly help with this transformation.

Canopy Fitouts’ name was inspired by the way the forest canopy shelters and protects the rest of the forest so it can thrive, it stays close to our vision to create inspiring workplaces that encourage and enrichen the lives of workplace inhabitants to build and grow successful organisations.  We take the challenge and uncertainty to help guide our clients into making decisions that allow them to build successful organisations and we take the stress out of the process so they can get on and do what they do best much like how the canopy helps protect the forest.

Man-made canopies serve the same purpose, they provide protection and give space and boundaries. At Canopy Fitouts they value beautiful work spaces, and now they are working towards a beautiful space for the people of Melbourne.

We are really excited to help give back to the environment so we would love you to help donate or pick up a shovel and help Canopy build a Canopy!

The team from Canopy Fitouts

On the rain drenched day, Canopy planted over 700 native plants (ranging from small trees to shrubs to ground covers) with Nic from Friends of Westgate Park and a couple of us from Fifteen Trees. As promised, Director Karl followed through on his pledge to wear a suit if we received a donation over $1,000. And we did thanks to the generosity of Plan System.

In fact, thanks to Canopy’s Go Fund Me campaign, another $4,201,00 was raised. This money has gone towards another 670 trees, that were planted in Northern Grampians District of Western Victoria by Trish and John Sweeney, members of the Buloke and Northern Grampians Landcare Network.

Year 9 students from St. Arnaud Secondary College.

Trish and John Sweeney are on the land near Winjallok, which is where Landcare began almost 35 years ago. It seemed fitting that a community planting should occur there.  When COVID conditions allowed, the Year 9s from St. Arnaud Secondary College (as part of their Biodiversity Week activities), assisted the Sweeneys to put in a planting of the seedlings – all species native to that particular area.  The area selected for the planting is directly adjacent to where Landcare was officially launched!   The plantings have a multirole purpose, the trees will act as a windbreak, a biodiversity corridor and to stop gully erosion in the locality. All while being a visible legacy of community efforts for many years to come.

Walking the talk!

Huge thank you to Canopy Outfits for their amazing support of our native environment. All up 1,170 trees, 500 at Westgate Park and 670 in the western district of Victoria. A seriously generous company.

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!

2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).
