Planting trees for Sisters of the St Brigidine Order.

TREES PLANTED

The St Brigidine Sisters have been supporting our native environment for the past 4 years and 2015 was no exception. Through their generosity, Fifteen Trees was able to provide the Cockburn Wetlands Centre with 300 trees for the Bibra Lake Reserve (WA). This reserve lies about 15km south of Perth. The community has been rehabilitating degraded areas of the Bibra Lake Reserve for the past 21 years. They have trialed numerous techniques and are successfully re-establishing wildlife corridors along the wetland foreshore. The rehabilitated areas now support numerous wildlife including Slender Tree Frogs, Southern Brown Bandicoots and a variety of wetland birds and small bush birds. These areas form part of a landcare demonstration trail and is visited by numerous individuals and groups for training and education purposes. Denise Crosbie (Wetlands Officer) writes … Dear Colleen, I would like to pass on a big thank you for the generous donation of 300 seedlings provided by the St Brigidine Sisters through your Fifteen Trees project. All the seedlings were planted by a variety of visiting groups and the Wetland Centre’s volunteers in a band on the northern shore of Bibra Lake. We erected tree guards to protect the seedlings until they are large enough to withstand the variety of waterbirds that feed upon it and build nests among the dense sedge stands. Our volunteers will continue to control the weeds until the sedges have filled the spaces. Once again, thank you for the enormous generosity of your program and supporters. Thank you to Sisters of the St Brigidine Order for your continued support. Slainte – Colleen[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
