Earth Hour

TREES PLANTED

This Saturday night from 8.30, join Fifteen Trees and SWITCH OFF your lights for one hour. index Earth Hour is a World Wildlife Fund initiative that sees hundreds of millions of people switching off their lights for one hour, on the same night across the world. Starting from Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour now takes place in 152 countries around the world. The website has lots of great ideas so be sure to check them out. This one looks like fun – a guide to making lanterns. ‘It is much, much more than a symbolic action of switching off lights for an hour; it’s a continuous movement driving real actions, big and small, that are changing the world we live in. From new legislation in the Russian parliament to better protect seas from oil pollution, to the initiation of two huge reforestation projects in Africa – the impact of Earth Hour is widespread and real’. Earth Hour website. During that hour, here at Fifteen Trees we are going to do a couple of things like – look at ways to permanently reduce our electricity bill, revamp our recycling system (I hear Coles are taking soft plastics to recycle), relook at our car useage and have a candle light get together with a some green minded friends. During the hour, we will restore and replenish our souls knowing that millions do care about our world. Sometimes … you can do something quiet to make a noise. Slainte – Colleen
