W.H.Grampians. Looking after people and planet.

TREES PLANTED

54

Women’s Health Grampians have sponsored the planting of 54 indigenous trees, in a highly impactful and appreciated effort to reduce the carbon footprint of their fleet of cars.

The wonderful team at WHG.

This is a really clever way of being able to drive around the large region Women’s Health Grampians covers – from Ballarat right through to half-way to the South Australian border – basically a third of the state! These trees will enable the staff to drive with a clearer conscience, knowing those 54 trees will counteract the use of their 3 hybrid, 2 petrol vehicles. Given they service a massive population of over 250,000, covering over 13 LGA’s, and spanning more than 48,000 square kilometres, this sees the cars out on a regular basis with their staff clocking up many k’s up and down the highway doing their amazing work.

We are lucky to have Women’s Health Grampians in our region. Established in 1991, they are one of nine regional and three state-wide women’s health services funded by the Victorian Department of Health. Their mission is to improve women’s equality, health and wellbeing in the Grampians region and beyond. They do this by working closely with all levels of government, community and business partners to achieve better public policy and services for women, and to work towards achieving gender equality.

Thank you to ERA Nurseries for providing us with 300 tube mixtures of native wattles and gum trees, thank you also to sponsors at Fifteen Trees for your kindness in purchasing these trees for our revegetation project at Woolsthorpe.

The trees were planted as part of a revegetation project at Woolsthorpe, in Western Victoria by the Boyce family, who are working hard to help restore the land back to its original vegetation biome.

Native birds of the district (cockatoo, kingfisher and wren).

This revegetation site plays a significant role in providing habitat to local native wildlife such as eagles, fantails, kingfishes, guinea fowls, finches, emus, magpies, cockatoos (in fact this district is home to 527 species of birdlife), plus koalas, kangaroos, and possums.

Thank you to Women’s Health Grampians for your care for people and planet.

Sometimes there are really simple things everyone can do to reduce their carbon footprint. When staying at a hotel, choosing to skip the room cleaning and having a tree planted instead, is one of those things’. Hotels for Trees.

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
