Up in the Wimmera Mallee district of Victoria, 500 trees were recently planted by an enthusiastic and diligent group of year nine students from Donald High School. The planting was coordinated by Donald High School, Donald Landcare and Fifteen Trees. The planting of half of those trees was made possible by 14 individuals who collectively have made a huge contribution to this small rural community.
Donald High School wish to thank Liz Russel from Donald Land Care, as well as Colleen Filippa from Fifteen Trees, and of course to the generous donors who contributed to helping us sustain and improve our local, native environment. The students were diligent and focused on getting the job done right. They had a great time getting dirty, lending a hand in protecting their environment and supporting the Donald community.

Of those 500 trees, 280 were paid for by a group of remarkable individuals who collectively have helped out this community enormously. Big shout out to the following people for purchasing 15 trees: Ben Lockyer, Hannah Pinkerton, Jess, Marj Garcia, Caitlin Larcombe, Jennifer Smith, Sue Harling from the fabulous Designer Blinds to You, Kerrie Lord, Lena Mazza (who bought her trees as a gift for friend John) and Janette Allison.
Shout out also to Karl Tischler from Marlin Communications for purchasing 30 trees (to collect the carbon from 5 flights for 6 people), Alan Dix for purchasing 40 trees (collecting his carbon from flights to and from the UK) and Trausti Magnusson for purchasing 45 trees. Trausti hails from Iceland and is contributing to our tree projects here in rural Australia. Trausti … you rockstar!
Fifteen Trees also kicked in for 15 trees as a thank you to Charlie Wilson who has been contributing articles for our website. To date, Charlie has written 2 articles – Five reasons to plant trees, and Planting and Caring for Trees. Charlie is an Australian uni student living in Melbourne who is passionate about technology and the latest innovations. And writing.
From this small gesture of mindfulness on the part of 14 individuals, a living, breathing change can be created hundreds of kms away. There are individuals in all parts of the country, taking steps to protect our environmental inheritance. We can all join in.
