G. J. Gardner Homes has been supporting our native environment (through Fifteen Trees) since 2013 and has helped us plant well over 34,000 trees across Victoria and Tasmania. For every new home built, Fifteen Trees organises the planting of 15 trees in the local district. This year, the project will see over 8,500 trees planted by schools, landcare and various environmental groups.
The partnership with Fifteen Trees allows GJG teams to go into the field for some team building activities as well as help support the local community through their corporate social responsibility policies.
Darren and Bronwyn Hinton from G. J. Gardner Homes Swan Hill are generous supporters of local community groups and their tree planting projects. This year, Darren and Bronwyn purchased 390 trees for the Swan Hill Rural City Council.
G.J. Gardner Homes, through Fifteen Trees, kindly donated 390 trees to Swan Hill Rural City Council to plant out the Dog Pound near Swan Hill Landfill. These trees will provide shade, ecological services and reduce impacts of wind. Plants were selected from the two Ecological Vegetation Classes that existed over the site, including a range of canopy, understorey and a small number of ground cover species.
The plants were ordered through Tony Langdon at the Mildura Native Nursery, which was very helpful in providing the correct plants for the site we had picked. Their help was greatly appreciated. Staff from Regulatory Services undertook a significant amount of work to prepare the site for revegetation, including mulching and installation of irrigation systems. The Public Health and Regulatory Services Team organised a planting day on 20 September.

I was delighted to meet up with Tony from Mildura Native Nursery, to talk about how Fifteen Trees and his nursery can work together to support local community groups who are doing so much to revegetate our native environment. Darren and Bronwyn, you have such a great local resource in Tony. Thank you for your support not only of our native environment, but also your support of small independent businesses like the Mildura Native Nursery.
