Charles Taliaferro from St Olaf College in Minnesota US has contacted Fifteen Trees asking us to plant some trees (45) on the College’s behalf. A quick look at the College’s website shows strong sustainable policies. I particularly like their Green Bike program which encourages and supports students to bike ride around the campus. The bike-share program even runs workshops to teach student some skills around maintaining their own bikes. Australian uni’s are you listening?

Charles wanted to help reduce the carbon footprint of his classes (Philosophical Theology A & B and Aesthetics) and he wanted to give names to the trees. So here goes, the trees are named after – Ian, Megan, Emma, Cameron, Taylor, Ryan, David, Nathan, Tiepolo, Kippy, Paul, Jay, Candle, Milo, Charles, Rachel, Princess Divine, Russell Crowe (would that be our Russell?), Grant, Thomas, Margaret, Sebastian, Lilly (an Aussie who I hear is doing brilliant work), Nathan, Skylar, Joshua, Isaac, Mr Anderson, Dr Wang, Tao Daniel, Connor, Jeff, Maxwell, Mr Adams, Nico, Ms Rood, Marino, Isabella, Betsy, Armaan, Nick, Sheridan and Samantha.
Fifteen of the trees were planted by the students at St Columba Primary School in Ballarat (Victoria). Class room teacher Nicky Russell writes … Our little band of Environmental Representatives planted the trees. They were planted just before we had some really good rain. They are all doing well considering that some were planted in fairly high traffic areas. Thank you so much for including us in your program.
The other 30 were planted by the Pentland Hills Landcare Group as part of a bigger project in which they hope to plant trees along the entire length (35 km) of the local creek.

WPA acknowledges that when it comes to environmental initiatives, its people are its strength. It has recently partnered with us to plant 15 trees for each hard-working staff member identified as a Sustainability Warrior.
Tasman Cottage already gives you a chance to reconnect with nature, yet its manager Nick has taken an important next step. He recently purchased 150 trees in collaboration with us here at Fifteen Trees, an action which ensures vital habitat for our native fauna, such as the unique Tassie Devil.
