United Nations plants 100 trees!

Some of our partnerships make so much sense there’s almost nothing more to say. United Nations Association of Australia has partnered with Fifteen Trees to plant 100 trees as gifts to presenters and facilitators taking part in the UN Sustainable Partnerships Forum.
The forum, due to take place in on 20-21st April, will bring together governments of all levels, businesses, universities, start-ups, students and community organisations. This rich brew of thinkers, movers and shakers will hear from, and interact with, leading speakers from within the UN and from companies, universities and organisations which partner with the UN.
The forum aims to find ways to work together to address underlying factors that have made the pandemic that much harder in some parts of the world: poverty, food insecurity, fragmented health systems, educational inequality and climate change. We cannot let swathes of humans slip through the cracks in a crisis. The solutions lie in working together across borders with heart, commitment, and determination.
We planted the 100 trees at Avon Plains and Coonooer, VIC with the Buloke & Northern Grampians Landcare Network (BNGLN). These trees will improve the biolinks, assist with erosion control and provide habitat to the native wildlife.
Part of the plan is to have a greater percentage of the farm under native vegetation to help increase biodiversity and the many benefits it brings. The support of Fifteen Trees and their sponsors has helped to make this task possible.
The trees generously provided to us are the first to be planted for some years and will provide many benefits for the farm. They help to create a wind break for those chilling southerlys and they link the river with an older line of trees. They have been planted in rows of 5 so will provide enough density to offer shelter for the smaller birds. The diversity of species will mean there is a more consistent food source as different plants flower at differing times of the year.

We think planting trees as an expression of gratitude at a forum like this is a no-brainer. Trees are a beautiful analogy for the intellectual effort and sheer weight of humanitarian selflessness that will make this event so valuable.
In fact, this is a forum that perfectly aligns with our values. So much so that we will be there too, showcasing our efforts and doing our bit to encourage connected, sustainable thinking. We’re proud to be a part of the many good things that will come out of this event.
