Planting on the Daylesford-Clunes Road.
With such a wet summer, we have seen trees being planted as late as last month (January). In the Spa Country district near Smeaton, 180 trees were planted at 3 locations.  A third of the trees (60) were planted amongst a native plantation that was put in a few years ago. Another third of the trees (60) were placed around the perimeter of a house to attract bird life. While the last third (60) were planted to replace trees that were washed out along the edge of Birch Creek from the recent flooding. Meanwhile over at Smokeytown Rd,Springmount, 60 trees were planted on an old family property. These trees (like all the others) have been planted for the long term (we are all aiming for 100 years). All trees at Spa Country and Springmount were kindly paid for by Justin Krousoratis at the Ballarat City car dealership. Justin is helping to collect new car emissions by paying for 15 trees to be planted each time his team sells either a Peugeot or a Honda Civic. Ballarat City (European and Honda) have helped to plant ~ thousand (1020) trees in the past 12 months. Most of their trees have stayed in the Ballarat district although a few hundred were planted at the West Gate Reserve in Melbourne.  This is a thousand trees that would not have otherwise have made it into the ground. That is a massive effort, thank you once again to Justin and his team at Ballarat City. Enjoy the long summer evenings but beware of the mosquitoes (that are out in full force) – Colleen[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
