A Sustainable Wedding!

Shane and Su Yin, who married on March 7th this year at Bawley Vale Estate, Bawley Point, NSW, chose to give gifts to their guests, but not in the traditional sense of bombonieres (sugared almonds). Instead, as they informed guests, they did something way better – they organised the planting of one tree on the behalf of each of their guests and their wedding suppliers

TREES PLANTED

130

Shane and Su Yin, who married on March 7th this year at Bawley Vale Estate, Bawley Point, NSW, chose to give gifts to their guests, but not in the traditional sense of bombonieres (sugared almonds). Instead, as they informed guests, they did something way better – they organised the planting of one tree on the behalf of each of their guests and their wedding suppliers. And with a total of 130 guests and suppliers, that equated to 130 trees.

Important roadside reserve.

The trees were recently planted by the Campaspe Valley Landcare Group near where the Kyneton-Redesdale Rd crosses the Campaspe River, VIC.

This year’s plantings are designed to continue to reintroduce biodiversity to the area which is basically farmland. We are hoping to bring back native fauna to the area, particularly bees and birds. The Manna gums are to encourage more koalas into the area and we hope to extend this roadside reserve in the following years.

Thank you Shane and Su Yin for these trees, they would not have been planted without your generous contribution.

Trees are a world away from sugared almonds, so we can’t draw any traditional bittersweet analogies here. But if Shane and Su Yin’s life together is as selfless, considered, connected, and useful as their gift to their guests on their wedding day, well … the world will be a better place in more ways than one.

Congratulations to you both, and our best wishes for the future.

It is amazing the strength we have seen with people banding together during the bushfires earlier in the year and now with Covid19. The photo is from our Wedding Day in front of a big tree burnt in the south coast fires (Bawley Point, NSW). Thank you to all our family and friends who helped make our day so special.

We can help make your special day even more special by incorporating sustainability into the planning. Although large weddings, parties and events are not likely to take place until 2021, we can still plant trees for those who could not attend due to Covid19 restrictions. With a bit of notice, we can have the trees organised to be planted before the event, so you can directly link your friends and family to the days on your special day.

At the heart of every nunnery is, of course, charity. We love our partnership with the Brigidine Sisters and are impressed with their passion to give. That’s a long history of giving from these remarkable women, and we are not only benefactors of this kindness, as their other philanthropy does ripple out to myriad of other organisations as well.
