Businesses like Renovators Paradise ensure we can get our work done to create planting habitats and regenerate our forests and landscapes. Without the likes of them, it would be virtually impossible to plant the amount of trees we do annually.
So, when Renovators Paradise approached us to reduce their carbon footprint as a business over a decade ago, we leapt at their offer to help. Ever since then, Simon Hughes, owner Renovators Paradise, who are Melbourne’s largest supplier of quality recycled building materials, have been living up to their proud reputation of sustainability – both in their own business and sponsoring tree planting projects with us.
135 trees, (mostly wattles), were planted out this Winter at Barfold, Victoria on Taungurung Country. Situated north of Kyneton this land is home to the significant geological feature Barfold Gorge a four-kilometre landmass which is 80 metres deep and has two waterfalls, basalt columns and a lava cave.
The trees will add to the already amazing landscape of gorge environs and provide homes and fodder for many species including peregrine falcons. Other flora and fauna include platypus, rare fish and a rare endangered plant species called the hairy anchor plant (Discaria pubescens).
The 135 trees were a mix of Wirilda, Lightwood, Blackwood and Golend Wattle which are all local to the area. The number planted represents the equivalent of the use of nine vehicles per year (9 x 15 Trees = 135 vehicles carbon offsetting), which is also the number of vehicles Renovators Paradise has in their staff car fleet.
“That tree planter you see in the photo is owned by a member and he uses it in contract work on revegetation. Our Landcare group is lucky to have him as a member, for several reasons, including that we get to utilize this tree planter free of charge. It can get many small plants in the ground very quickly & greatly reduce our planting times. Thank you to Simon at Renovators Paradise for your assistance. It is very gratefully received.”
