ReFashion Exhibition.

TREES PLANTED

It is great when 3 loves of my life come together into one space. This is what happened on Saturday at Backspace Gallery (Ballarat) when a group of women collected some well … junk … and turned it into recycled, revamped gowns. There was art, there was fashion and there was recycling. I usually hang around the edges of art exhibitions. So I was delighted to be asked to be an actual part of the event and co-open the exhibition along with Ballarat City Counsellor Belinda Coats. Coming from a teaching background, I naturally gave a science lesson about plastics. I think I lost the audience between polymers and monomers. But I did also talk about how plastics don’t break down and how they are based on petroleum products and I felt I was winning them back. I then introduced the French term Gleaners and I knew then I had been forgiven. Thank you to Niki for the invite to open the event, Deborah Klein for organising the event and to the fabulous women who could see art in what most of us would put out with Tuesday’s bins. tumblr_n0cfu8K5V01qzlf7zo5_1280 The exhibition is on until February 9th after which all the gowns will be featured in a fashion parade during the Ballarat Backyard Taster evening (5.30 – 8.30) on February 21st.
