Anthony Dufty is the President of the dynamic Pentland Hills Landcare Group (between Ballarat and Bacchus Marsh). Recently the group celebrated 45 years of work and celebrated with a fabulous evening at St Anne’s Winery to which I was invited along. We had fantastic wines and food and of course – there was cake.

Rod Quantock was the guest speaker for the evening, he was very entertaining and somewhat evil with his ‘climate change humour’.

But the real message behind the evening was that, at a local level our native environment is well looked after by Landcare. And it is through the support of community businesses that Landcare can thrive and tackle some big revegetation projects.
Peter King from King’s Cars is one such business. Peter recently donated 600 trees to the Pentland Hills group. The trees were planted along the Myrniong Creek between Lerderderg Forest and the Werribee Gorge Park and are part of a bigger project to revegetate the entire length of the creek (22km). A variety of groups helped out with the planting including students from Bacchus Marsh Grammar.

To date, Peter King has helped plant over 2,500 trees across Victoria. Over the past 4 years, his trees have been planted at Ross Creek, Kinglake, Golden Beach, Sutton Grange, Metcalfe, Langley, Inglewood and Westgate Park. Peter has 15 trees planted for every Citroen and Mitsubishi sold at his Ballarat dealership. A wonderful supporter of Fifteen Trees since the first days of business.

There’s something quietly powerful about a person who decides, on their own, to do something good for the planet. No fanfare, no corporate mandate – just a simple choice to put a few trees in the ground. When hundreds of individuals make that same choice, something remarkable happens. Native forests are restored, wildlife corridors are rebuilt, and community groups across Australia get to do the work they love. So if you’ve ever purchased trees through Fifteen Trees, thank you.
We have a handful of organisations and small companies, who purchase trees when they can. These people are masters of ingenuity when it comes to incorporating tree planting into their business practices.
