TREES PLANTED

PC_Logo_Primary_Tag_1_FA1Pana Barbounis, founder of Pana Chocolate,  has generously donated 9,600 trees to Fifteen Trees for distribution to community groups in Victoria and NSW. This Kinglake planting site is one of 6 areas to receive these trees. Other areas include University of Newcastle, Flowerdale, Ballina, Brisbane Ranges and Botany Bay National Park. The one thousand trees were planted at 5 sites in the Kinglake District,  including a childcare centre (100 trees), a scout hall (100) and 3 Landcare member’s properties at Harper (500), Hubbard (250) and Spagnoli (50). Hi Colleen, Photo (below) is of our tree planting volunteers at the Kinglake Ranges Childcare Centre. We planted 100 trees funded by Pana Chocolate. Once established the trees will provide a well needed windbreak and nature play area for the children. Thank you very much Pana for the plants you were able to fund this year. It is very much appreciated. Chris Cobern | Landcare Coordinator | Upper Goulburn Landcare Network Chris gathered planting volunteers from NAB, the ANZ and the Victorian Mobile Landcare Team for this project. These groups periodically travel up to the Murrindindi Shire to work with local landcare with their re-vegetation efforts. ‘Sometimes there are really simple things everyone can do to reduce their carbon footprint. When staying at a hotel, choosing to skip the room cleaning and having a tree planted instead, is one of those things’. Hugo from Hotels for Trees.

‘We’re thrilled to team up with Fifteen Trees in this crucial effort. Koalas are an iconic Australian species, and with increasing threats to their natural environment, it’s never been more important to ensure they have access to suitable habitats.Planting these trees is just the beginning of a broader initiative to safeguard their future’. 5,040 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in.
