Mildura – Northern Mallee District.

TREES PLANTED

Yelta Landcare Group in the Mallee District have been busy helping out the local Merbein Golf Club with their wildlife corridor. On Sunday 30th June, the group along with staff from local home builder G.J. Gardner,  planted out 100 trees. Trees were sourced from the Lang’s Native Nursery and were a mixture of native corymbias and eucalyptus. The scarlet-flowering and lemon-scented gums will attract the beautiful lorikeets that populate the area. Across Victoria and Tasmania, G.J. Gardner Homes are helping our native environment by paying for 15 trees for every new home built. The trees are distributed (by Fifteen Trees) to local landcare groups to plant. 2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
