A far cry from the Blue Mountains of NSW.
Beautiful red soil.
At Manangatang Recreational Reserve (in the northwest region of Victoria) 30 native trees have been planted by community volunteers, Landcare members and students from Manangatang P-12 thanks to the generous support of Paul Hartmann from Blue Mountain Ecotours. Kim Cross (facilitator of the Eastern Mallee Landcare District) coordinated the day and worked tirelessly to ensure all the trees were well planted, protected and watered. Paul wanted to reduce the carbon footprint of his tours and has organised (through Fifteen Trees) the planting of one tree for each tour conducted. Paul has only recently established this company. His aim is to offer something personal and unique to visitors of the Blue Mountains. With many years in the tourism industry and with the added advantage of being a local – his tours are sure to be a huge success. Thank you Paul. 2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

145 TREES PLANTED

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
