Trees for Narmbool

TREES PLANTED

After a long wet winter and spring, planting season in the southern states of Australia is coming to a close for 2016. However, before we completely close shop for the summer, check out these trees. One hundred and five trees were planted by attendees at a Sustainable Education Workshop held at Narmbool (Vic) and organised by Ballarat Science & Environmental Teachers Network. The trees were generously donated by Peter King and the team at King’s Cars Ballarat. We plant 15 trees for every new Mitsubishi and Citroen sold at the dealership. I was a participant on the day and happily joined in with the tree planting.   Tree planting Narmbool is a magnificent pastoral property of 2,000 hectares located at Elaine, just 30 minutes from Ballarat and 90 minutes from Melbourne. Owned and operated by Sovereign Hill, Narmbool is a fascinating example of sustainable farming in a diverse and fragile ecosystem. They run educational programs for school students from Prep right through to VCE. Beautiful views of Mt Buninyong.
Can you spot me?  (hint … sunglasses).
Thank you Peter King and your team for your continued support. Through your generosity, 1,000s of trees have been planted in the Ballarat district. Slàinte – Colleen New-Kings-CMYK[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
