TREES PLANTED

Peter King has been supporting Fifteen Trees pretty much from the ‘get go‘. Peter purchases 15 trees for every Mitsubishi and Citroen car sold at his Ballarat car dealership. These trees are then distributed to community groups such as Landcare. Planting groups have been busy this month, and 375 of Peter’s trees were planted across a number of sites. That equates to 25 cars that have had their carbon emissions reduced. IMG_3748 Simon Furness from Pipers Creek Landcare planted 120 trees to help revegetate the native bushland around his property. The Ballarat Permaculture Society planted 60 of Peter’s trees as too did the Donald Golf Club. IMG_3748 Chrissie Prescott, organised a tree planting party as birthday surprise for her husband. She writes … Hi Colleen,  Our tree planting was a great success. I managed to keep it a secret from my husband until his birthday and there was much plotting and planning and fencing that went on in preparation for it. It was great fun to firstly reveal the 60 trees, he was then under instructions to meet me at 10am for a walk and we went and collected my neighbour who very kindly donated his time to put the 65m fence up for us. My husband was expecting to find a pile of fencing materials that he would have to put up. Instead he found a completed fence, with a bow on it, and tree holes dug and ready to go! On the Sunday that followed I had organised a surprise tree planting party and we were graced with beautiful weather! We had friends and family and dogs along to help and the kids especially had a ball planting the variety of natives we had chosen. We mulched and watered and felt exceptionally satisfied!  It has been a dream come true to plant these trees and is something that we definitely couldn’t have achieved without the help of Fifteen Trees and our friends and family, so all round a very feel good day and the best birthday ever for my husband (his words!). Thanks again and thank you also Kings Cars who support Fifteen Trees. Chrissie :-) IMG_3770 That leaves 75 trees (from the 375). These trees were planted by Julia Stockigt and Ray Aspinall at Bittern. These trees have been planted to help the native wildlife (in particular small ground creatures) find suitable habitat to live. IMG_20141208_170452 A huge thank you Peter and the team at Peter King Cars. Your continued support is making a huge impact on many of our local properties. Slainte – Colleen

‘Sometimes there are really simple things everyone can do to reduce their carbon footprint. When staying at a hotel, choosing to skip the room cleaning and having a tree planted instead, is one of those things’. Hugo from Hotels for Trees.

‘We’re thrilled to team up with Fifteen Trees in this crucial effort. Koalas are an iconic Australian species, and with increasing threats to their natural environment, it’s never been more important to ensure they have access to suitable habitats.Planting these trees is just the beginning of a broader initiative to safeguard their future’. According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in.
