The High Ground goes Carbon Neutral.

TREES PLANTED

Fifteen Trees is delighted to have partnered with Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey to help reduce the carbon footprint of their screen and audio-based exhibition The High Ground. The exhibition is running from Wednesday 1st November until Saturday 11th November 2017 at the Arts House in North Melbourne. There is no charge to attend.

“Climatic extremes are the new meteorological normal for our planet. This exhibition offers human, interspecies, plant and geological perspectives, and visceral experiences of the fragility, resilience and collapse of systems and ecologies.

The High Ground, a new installation in the North Melbourne Town Hall Clock Tower to accompany In Extremis, is a test of human empathy in confined spaces. Participants undertake a negotiation within a delicate and precarious situation. Only one person can make it to the top. In collaboration with Jen Hector (Australia), Live Umbrella (Finland), and Sophie Weeks and John Ash (UK).” http://www.artshouse.com.au/events/in-extremis/

We have planted 48 trees on the behalf of Madeleine and Tim and The High Ground. That equates to 4 trees per day for every day the exhibition is open. The trees were planted as a part of a larger planting at the Westgate Park by members from the Friends of Westgate Park Group along with RMIT lecturers and students.

With the Westgate Bridge as a backdrop, the Friends of Westgate Park have planted 4,000 trees supplied by the generous supporters of Fifteen Trees. The group is engaged in a very successful re-vegetation program at the park which involves annual planting of between 20,000 and 25,000 trees. As these trees grow, the biodiversity of the area is improving. It is becoming a popular place for people and for the birds and animals that choose to make the park their home.

Thank you to Madeleine and Tim, and in fact all those behind this exhibition who wanted to run a carbon neutral event. The exhibition looks to be a formidable collaboration between a number of Australian and international artists. Looking forward to attending.

At the heart of every nunnery is, of course, charity. We love our partnership with the Brigidine Sisters and are impressed with their passion to give. That’s a long history of giving from these remarkable women, and we are not only benefactors of this kindness, as their other philanthropy does ripple out to myriad of other organisations as well.
