Mature trees at Bungaree PS.

TREES PLANTED

Maree and Brian Harrison from Harrison Funerals, have been supporting Fifteen Trees since 2010. In that time, they have helped plant 220 mature trees in public spaces including school grounds, community gardens and reserves. Bungaree PS recently planted 10 mature trees courtesy of Maree and Brian’s generosity. Planting a cherry with Brian and Jeanette Harrison Principal Calvin Tromps writes .. Hi Colleen, we planted our trees (10)  yesterday as part of our huge working bee (went from 10 to 3pm). Brian and Maree Harrison joined us for a little while. We put in 8 Capital Ornamental Pears alongside the netball court. We had to plant them sufficiently away from the fence as we have pruners in the shape of cows, who will nibble away at them. We also put in 2 cherries in the playground. We will net them before the Rosellas get at the fruit in a few years’ time. Working Bee June 2015 (17) We have been upgrading the environment at the school by putting in more trees, most are native. We did a survey just two weeks ago and counted 126 native trees greater than 6m, 133 natives under 6m, 2 exotic trees greater than 6m, and 9 exotics less than 6m. Now with these trees, we’ll have 19 exotic trees less than 6m. All this in a surface area of an hectare. Bungaree pear trees planted (2) Thanks again for your work in the sourcing of the trees for our school, and in particular please convey my thanks to Maree and Brian. Indeed, thank you Maree and Brian. These 10 trees are the first of 100 (mature) trees to be planted across Ballarat this winter. Most will go to primary schools, but some are also earmarked to the dynamic people behind the Learmonth Community Gardens. Slainte – Colleen
