Planted in

Goondaloo Creek and Johnstone River Queensland.

TREES PLANTED

Jean and Graham Ruddell from G.J Gardner Homes Townsville has partnered with Fifteen Trees to enabled 450 trees to be planted in two of the most beautiful locations in Queensland – Goondaloo Creek and Johnstone River Catchment.

Kim Sellars (Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare) writes …

20140503_095114‘Thanks to the initiative of the Fifteen Trees program Coastal Dry Tropics Landcare Inc (CDTLI) with GJ Gardiner homes, and  over 30 volunteers from the surrounding community  were able to plant 225 local provenance species at Goondaloo Creek. This area is a very important corridor for many native fish, some of which are endangered who move up stream to breed.

The species were collected and  grown from seed by the community and collected from around the area and propagated by volunteers at our local nursery.

By increasing the riparian habitat in this area we are helping to improve the water quality through filtration and reduced erosion as well as increase the aesthetics and diversity of the site for both the community and other non aquatic fauna – such as magpie geese and wallabies.

These trees will continue to be watered and maintained by CDTLI and its volunteer base to ensure their survival and ongoing environmental benefits remain well into the future. Thanks to everyone who participated and made this possible.’

IMG_3655To celebrate National Tree Day 2014, students from Innisfail State College planted out trees along the banks of the Johnstone River adjacent to their school. Of the hundreds of trees planted, 225 were donated by Jean and Graham. This planting compliments a series of plantings that started almost 20 years ago!

Diane Mauloni and Peter Rowles from Johnstone Region Landcare coordinated the day. I know a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to ensure a successful planting day. Fantastic work Diane and Peter.

All up 450 trees were planted this year thanks to the generosity of Jean and Graham and their team at G.J.Gardner Townsville and Charter Towers.
