Trees for Mornington

TREES PLANTED

Ross Morley, Managing Director of G. J. Gardner Homes has been supporting our native environment (through Fifteen Trees) since 2013 and has helped plant 34,000 trees across Victoria and Tasmania. For every new home built, Fifteen Trees organises the planting of 15 trees in the local district. This year, the project will see over 8,500 trees planted by schools, landcare and various environmental groups. The partnership with Fifteen Trees allows GJG teams to go into the field for some team building activities as well as help support the local community through their corporate social responsibility policies.   GJGLogo_NO-TAG_WHITE_BG_lrg Judy Corcoran and Scott Doughty from G. J. Gardner Homes Mornington are generous supporters of local community groups and their tree planting projects. This year, Judy and Scott purchased 180 trees for the Mornington Peninsula.   [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]

Following a call from the nursery that the plants were ready and with a great day of weather, I contacted Scott from G.J Gardner Homes to see if they were interested to help. Scott jumped at the chance and within a few hours he was on site. Scott, my daughter Jett and I planted many of the trees that day. Our plan is to work towards planting out a wildlife corridor along the Red Hill Rail Trail.  We stopped for some morning tea and then continued planting. A few weeks on with the good weather and the plants have nearly doubled in size! Paul Di Natale | Coordinator | Merricks Landcare group

2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
