Trees for The Mallee.

TREES PLANTED

Ross Morley, Managing Director of G. J. Gardner Homes has been supporting our native environment (through Fifteen Trees) since 2013. By the end of this year, Ross and the team at GJG will have helped plant over 56,000 trees across Victoria and Tasmania. For every new home built, Fifteen Trees organises the planting of 15 trees in the local district. This year alone, the relationship between G.J. Gardner Homes and Fifteen Trees, will see over 11,000 trees planted by schools, landcare and various environmental groups.

The partnership with Fifteen Trees, allows G.J. Gardner teams to go into the field for some team building activities as well as giving some support to the local community.

Di and Brad Stanbrook from G.J. Gardner Homes Mildura are generous supporter of local community groups and their tree planting projects. This year, the duo purchased 735 trees for their local community groups. The trees were planted across a number of sites: Red Cliffs Primary School, Red Cliffs Roadside Reserve (with Trees for Mum initiative with Mildura Rural City Council), Tina’s property (which adjoins a nearby parkland) and the Mildura Golf Club.

The Mallee is a tough environment for any new trees to grow. Even native trees! They are helped along by the community groups ensuring the trees are well protected with tree guards and water kept up to them. At the local golf club, conditions are harsh. However, the members take tree planting seriously and all trees are continuously watered via their drip system. This system is perfect for hot climates. It reduces the amount of evaporation by ensuring the water reaches the trees roots.

Thank you Di and Brad for enabling this project to go ahead, by purchasing 735 native trees and shrubs for these sites. Thank you also to Tina Grasser, Rita Chafe and the Red Cliffs and Districts Community Landcare for finding the sites and co-ordinating the planting with the local golf club. Shout-out also to Mildura Native Nursery for providing such an abundance of native trees and shrubs for this project.

Quality People and Training Solutions (QPTS) are always looking for ways in which they can care for people. As well as ways to care for the planet.

2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
