Ross Morley, Managing Director of G. J. Gardner Homes has been supporting our native environment (through Fifteen Trees) since 2013 and has now helped plant over 44,000 trees across Victoria and Tasmania. For every new home built, Fifteen Trees organises the planting of 15 trees in the local district. This year alone, the relationship between GJG and Fifteen Trees, will see over 11,000 trees planted by schools, landcare and various environmental groups.
On Friday 31st of August, on a day when rain was not forecast but none the less very welcome, the staff of GJ Gardner Homes helped plant their contribution of 375 plants in a Carrajung South revegetation site. This year has been quite trying weather wise to plan planting projects. Rainfall has been erratic and well below average. On this site, where willow removal, stock exclusion fencing and weed control have allowed revegetation of over 2 km of Reedy Creek, the contribution of both planting power and trees was most welcome. The landholders and crew have been planting at this site since mid-August – and each precious plant has been watered in by hand. On the community planting day, the GJ Gardner crew were joined by 40 secondary college students from Yarram. If plants do respond to emotions, the tube-stock put in the ground will have a great start, with all the high spirits and joy of being out and in the environment being shared by the students. The Yarram Yarram Landcare Network would like to thank Fifteen Trees and G.J. Gardner Central Gippsland for partnering with us to continue our environmental restoration work. Jill Vella | Landcare Project Officer | Yarram Yarram Landcare Network.Huge thank you to Anthony and his team for heading out to Carrajung South to help plant the trees. Thank you also to Jill, her team of volunteers from Yarram Yarram Landcare Network and of course the students from the local college. Sláinte – Colleen
