Evoke Group – environmentally friendly building solutions

Evoke Group has been established in Ballarat for over fifteen years. It’s a real ‘do anything’ team of building experts – from renovations and brand-new builds though to a modest carport or new slice of decking. With all this going on, Evoke still keeps one eye firmly on its broader vision, which is to focus on environmentally friendly building solutions. As Director Shannon says, ‘We only get one planet people! And I don’t want my kids picking up the bill.’

As well as integrating environmentally sound methods into their everyday building practices, Evoke plants trees. For the past few years, Evoke has sponsored trees on a quarterly basis through partnering with Fifteen Trees. Seedling quantities are linked to individual building projects as well as ongoing business impacts including vehicle use.

In line with Evoke’s local focus, all its trees are distributed to Goldfields and Corangamite environmental groups such as the Leigh Catchment Group. The Leigh Catchment group is the organising body for eight separate Landcare groups in the region, with multiple regeneration and habitat projects on the go at any one time.

Evoke prides itself on building homes, not houses; places to ‘live in and to grow old’. We like to think that residents of these homes in the far future will also benefit from Evoke’s far-sighted environmental decisions. Who knows, they may even be able to rest under the shade of some of its trees.

The 440 trees planted at Narmbool thanks to Evoke Group! Owned and operated by Sovereign Hill, Narmbool exemplifies sustainable farming within a diverse and fragile ecosystem. Famed for its fine quality merino wool, Narmbool also protects bushland and Williamsons Creek as habitat for native wildlife and flora. Narmbool is part of the traditional lands of the Wadawurrung people.

‘Sometimes there are really simple things everyone can do to reduce their carbon footprint. When staying at a hotel, choosing to skip the room cleaning and having a tree planted instead, is one of those things’. Hugo from Hotels for Trees.

‘We’re thrilled to team up with Fifteen Trees in this crucial effort. Koalas are an iconic Australian species, and with increasing threats to their natural environment, it’s never been more important to ensure they have access to suitable habitats.Planting these trees is just the beginning of a broader initiative to safeguard their future’. 5,040 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in.
