Earth Bottles and Fifteen Trees

TREES PLANTED

Fifteen Trees is delighted to announce that a new partnership has been formed with a wonderful Australian company called Earth Bottles.  The dynamic duo behind the brand are, good friends Briody Scholes (Torquay, Vic) and Danni Carr (Bryon Bay, NSW).

Briody and Danni have developed Eco Award Winning reusable water bottles made from double insulated stainless steel. These beautiful bottles keeps water cold for 24 hours, and liquids warm for 12 hours. Seriously check them out. Via Fifteen Trees, Briody and Danni will donate proceeds of their bottle sales to community groups for tree planting projects.

The first of Earth Bottles trees (90) have been planted at the Westgate Reserve, Melbourne, Victoria. Up until 30 years ago, this area was considered a wasteland and dumping ground (even as far back as the 1850s). In 1999, it took 19 year old VCA photography student, Naomie Sunner, to discover the Park’s potential. A Friends of Westgate group was quickly established and along with many supporters and volunteers they have transformed the Park in very significant ways.

seedling   Much of the 38 hectares have been mulched and planted. Weeds are well under control, something of a rarity in bush parks. The Friends group routinely construct and repair roads, paths and steps. They collect seeds, propagate plants and they organise rabbit control and manage storm-water flows.

And it is into this setting that trees from Earth Bottles have been planted.

Huge thank you to both Briody and Danni for their support of our native environment. These women have a serious commitment to the environment. Fifteen Trees is very excited to be partnering with such a wonderful, sustainable company that aims to remove the need for single use water bottles.

And that my friends can only be a good thing!

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
