In 2017, there were approximately 53.7 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions produced by the manufacturing industry in Australia. Knowing that the manufacturing industry is a big polluter, Designer Blinds To You made a conscious decision to ensure they are doing something to counterbalance those emissions.
Servicing Geelong, and the many towns in the surf coast communities in Victoria, means they travel many miles to their customers from their showroom to their businesses and homes. Designing Blinds To You are reducing their carbon footprint by supporting Fifteen Trees native tree planting regenerative projects, not only with trees but with the all important tree guards too.
The trees (30) were planted in the Mallee district of northwest Victoria at Raakajlim, A Mallee Conservation Sanctuary (490 ha) adjoining Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. The property is under management of Fiona and Phil Murdoch. This couple are preserving an important ecological area for numerous desert mammals, reptiles, birds and insects such as the Arid Bronze Azure butterfly. They are also designing and building water points and soaks as drought refuges for wildlife.

The Slender Cypress Pine is a key food plant for the Pink Cockatoo. This beautiful bird was listed as endangered under the federal EPBC Act in March 2023. The decline of Pink Cockatoos is closely linked to the decline of native Pine in Victoria. As well as being a food plant, Cockatoos nest in hollows of Pine trees that are at least 100 years old. This revegetation project is investing in the future for this bird.
Some of the species planted included; Slender Cypress Pine, Sugarwood, Cattlebush, Umbrella Wattle, Gumbi Gumbi, Pimelea Daisy-bush, Slender-leaf Mallee, Red Mallee, Elegant Wattle, Silver Hakea, Mallee Teatree, and Common Emubush.
We are passionate about the environment and our vision is to restore a functioning, semi-arid landscape. A diverse habitat and sanctuary for threatened plants and animals. Thank you everyone for your support. We are so very grateful.

This year we organised the planting of 50 native trees on their behalf. The trees were planted at Strath Creek, (Yellow-box and Red Stringybark country) in the Murrindini Shire by the Upper Goulburn Landcare Network (UGLN). The trees were a mixture of eucalyptus, wattle and banksia.
The Shire is widely recognised for its rich and varied flora and fauna and significant natural areas. It supports a diverse array of species and their habitats, spanning the tall Manna Gum forests on the Yarra River, grasslands on the Plenty River up to the Kinglake Plateau on the Great Dividing Range.
This unique area packs in over 1,000 indigenous flora species, 64 of which are listed significant species. Many of these are delicate terrestrial orchids, including some not found anywhere else.
Supporting and often relying upon these plants is an equally impressive array of 342 indigenous fauna species, 63 of which are listed significant species including the distinctive Brush-tailed Phascogale, Lace Monitors, Bandicoots, Sugar Glider, Wedge-tailed Eagle, Eltham Copper Butterfly and Platypus. Kangaroos remain a relatively common resident, and a myriad of birds frequent even the most urban backyard.
Many thanks to Sue and the team at Designer Blinds for You. You have been supporting our tree planting projects since 2019.
