Matthew writes … The Merri River runs out at the Warrnambool Breakwater where the fairy penguins live. Last year the Making a Difference for the Merri or MAD Landcare Group conducted several plantings on the Merri River, this site was one of them. However due to flooding the reveg did not work and was left looking bare. Thanks to CERES and Fifteen Trees we were able to remedy the failed reveg and replant with the help of overseas volunteers who are working with Conservation Volunteers Australia. The volunteers were told about the area and the importance of catchment management. They were visiting from China, Taiwan and Germany. The day was very cold with frost overnight but they did well and left a lasting mark. Restoring Australian ecosystems. Supporting communities with their revegetation projects for a greener and healthier planet.
Fifteen Trees acknowledges Indigenous Australians as the traditional custodians of the lands on which we work, live and play.
We recognise that Indigenous Australians have cared for and lived in harmony with this land for millennia, and their knowledge and wisdom of the land endures.
We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and stand in solidarity as Indigenous Australians seek a fairer and more sustainable future for the land and its people.
