CERES helping out with tree planting.

TREES PLANTED

CERES (Centre of Education and Research in Environmental Strategies) is an award winning, not-for-profit park located on 4.5 hectares on the Merri Creek in Melbourne. The park offers many services including a food market, nursery, cafe, education programs and guided tours (not only of their centre but OS and outback Australia).

They walk the talk at CERES by encouraging school groups to chip in to buy a tree to cover the carbon footprint of their visit to CERES. This year their trees totaled 155.

ceres CERES’  trees went around Australia. Across to WA at Cranbrook PS  (105 trees), north to Glendale PS in Queensland (20 trees) and the remaining trees (30) were planted at Flowerdale in central Victoria. Hi Colleen, Please find attached a few photos from last Friday’s tree planting day.  The students really enjoyed themselves and luckily the weather was in our favour – bit cold but not wet. Thanks for your support in providing the trees for the students to plant. Regards Pete and Beth | Parents Association | Cranbrook PS | Western Australia

Dear Colleen, It’s now a pleasing sight to see all these tree guards protecting little trees dotted around the school grounds! Looking forward to the day when I can compare photos from today, to photos of when students are sitting under them (or climbing them!) and enjoying their shade! Many thanks for making this possible. The generosity of CERES is valued, thank you for making our school a better place! Letty de Kroon | Glenvale Christian School | Queensland
All up 155 trees were planted on the behalf of school groups visiting CERES during the earlier part of this year. Thank you to Shane French for instigating this wonderful tree planting program at CERES. 2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

145 TREES PLANTED

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
