Trees planted for AWRE 2016

TREES PLANTED

Diversified Communications continue to reduce the carbon footprint of their Australian Waste & Recycling Exhibition (AWRE).

Working with Diversified, we distributed 174 trees to Steve Joblin and his team at Flowerdale Landcare, Vic.  As many of us remember, this area was devastated by bush-fires in the summer of 2009. For the past 8 years, Flowerdale and Kinglake community groups have been working endlessly to help the revegetate the district and entice the wildlife back. They are doing a mighty job. Of these 174 trees, 100 trees have been planted to reduce the footprint of their annual conference on waste and recycling. Another 74 trees were planted as thank you gifts to the 74 speakers. One tree for each speaker.  These trees are part of a bigger tree planting project of 3,000 trees.   [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]

This photo shows some of the steep terrain we work with in Flowerdale. The landholders have planted trees every year and have managed to connect the bush remnants on the ridge to the re-vegetation along Spring Creek. This creates cover for the small creatures that would might not otherwise survive the trip to the water source because of predators such as hawks, foxes, kookaburras and kestrels.  Thank you for the great work you do, Fifteen Trees and thank you also to Diversified for your support. Quality People and Training Solutions (QPTS) are always looking for ways in which they can care for people. As well as ways to care for the planet.

2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
