We heart CERES

TREES PLANTED

CERES (Centre of Education and Research in Environmental Strategies) is an award winning, not-for-profit park located on 4.5 hectares on the Merri Creek in Melbourne. The park offers many services including a food market, nursery, cafe, education programs and guided tours (not only of their centre but OS and outback Australia).

  CERES

CERES encourages school groups to chip in to buy a tree to cover the carbon footprint of their visit to the park. Last month, we planted 226 trees on their behalf to cover 2016 and Term 1, 2017.   [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]

Grassmere Reserve
The trees were planted at Grassmere on the northern fringes of Warrnambool by Matthew King and his Warrnambool and District Landcare group.
Matthew writes … The Merri River runs out at the Warrnambool Breakwater where the fairy penguins live.  Last year the Making a Difference for the Merri or MAD Landcare Group conducted several plantings on the Merri River, this site was one of them.  However due to flooding the reveg did not work and was left looking bare. Thanks to CERES and Fifteen Trees we were able to remedy the failed reveg and replant with the help of overseas volunteers who are working with Conservation Volunteers Australia. The volunteers were told about the area and the importance of catchment management.  They were visiting from China, Taiwan and Germany.  The day was very cold with frost overnight but they did well and left a lasting mark. Thank you to Shane French for instigating this wonderful tree planting program at CERES. Thank you also to Matthew for finding a home for CERES’ trees. Slàinte – Colleen  [/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

‘Nature is not a place to visit, it is a home that we all belong to, so it’s only fitting to give back’. This is a quote we heard a long time ago and it’s something that stuck with us and something we try to live by. Mark and Karyn Pemmelaar.
