TREES PLANTED

Hello Colleen, We had an excellent planting day on Friday 26th July – National School Tree Day.  It has rained since so the trees planted will have every chance of doing well. Sally and Ashley Heard from G.J. Gardner Homes came and joined in with the planting. Which was wonderful. Una Allender, Upper Hopkins Landcare. P1070467 Maroona Primary School staff and students, with the assistance of the Upper Hopkins Land Management Group and G.J. Gardner Homes, have planted 195 indigenous trees at Andrews Lane Reserve just north of Maroona township.  This planting adds to the work done by the students in 2012.  The trees will be maintained by Maroona PS and Upper Hopkins Land Management Group. Thank you to Sally and Ashley Heard who are the Ararat franchisees of G.J. Gardner Homes. How fantastic to see this company showing leadership in climate action. Slainte – Colleen

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
