GJ Gardner East Gippsland. A decade of support.

TREES PLANTED

525

Since 2014, the team from G.J. Gardner Homes East Gippsland have been supporting our tree planting projects by purchasing 15 trees for every new build. Over that time, they have generously purchased 5,175 native trees and shrubs for local revegetation projects. A decade of support!

Michael Ellett is a generous supporter of local community groups, and their tree planting projects. This year, his office purchased 525 native trees for revegetation projects in the Gippsland district of Victoria.

The local Landcare group determine the best location and species for the site. The seedlings themselves are grown by local independent nurseries who often collect seed from the region by hand. In this case, the trees were sourced from Wildseed Nursery Gippsland. Twelve members from Tambo Bluff Landcare Coastcare planted the trees over the course of the winter along with the team from GJG East Gippsland.

All trees and shrubs have been well protected with tree guards.

Species of trees planted included, Coastal Grey Box, Coastal Manna Gum, Buchan Blue Wattle, Silver Wattle, Blackwood Wattle, Sheoak, Cassia, Lomandra and Woolly Ti-tree, along with some native grasses such as Poa. This area is well known for its Coastal Grey Box species of eucalyptus. The planting will compliment the existing vegetation, enhance the biodiversity and encourage native wildlife such as wombats, echidnas, kookaburras, blue wrens (featured photo), red-eared finches and spinebills.

G.J. Gardner’s core business is building homes. Safe, secure places for families to grow and thrive. We love that alongside this, G.J. Gardner is planting forests, which is very much the same thing; safe, secure places for fauna and flora to grow and thrive for many years to come.

Quality People and Training Solutions (QPTS) are always looking for ways in which they can care for people. As well as ways to care for the planet.

2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
