G.J Gardner Mildura supporting our native environment.

TREES PLANTED

Ross Morley, Managing Director of G. J. Gardner Homes has been supporting our native environment (through Fifteen Trees) since 2013 and has since helped plant 1000’s of trees across Victoria and Tasmania. Each office in the 2 states plant 15 trees for every new home built. This year, this will add up to over 7,000 trees for schools, landcare and various environmental groups. Di and Brad Stanbrook from G.J Gardner Homes Mildura are huge supporters of local community groups and their tree planting projects. This year, they purchased 615 trees for Sunraysia TAFE (215) and Red Cliffs & District Community Landcare Group (400). Lauren Carr from Sunraysia TAFE writes – “Students from the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE in Mildura have been busy planting trees at the local Etiwanda Wetlands as a part of their studies in Conservation and Land Management. The Etiwanda Wetlands is a system used to treat up to 2/3 of Mildura’s stormwater, prior to being discharged into the Murray River. The system provides habitat for many waterbird species as they stop over on their annual migrations around the world. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for our hard working students, with over 30mm of rain falling two days prior to planting making conditions quite muddy and sticky! Planting was delayed for a week, and fortunately mother nature put on a beautiful sunny Mildura morning for us. Staff and students would like to thank G.J. Gardner Homes for supplying the trees for the project, and the Mildura Rural City Council for providing us with a site to plant the trees and providing assistance with ongoing watering and maintenance.”. This email comes from Vanessa Oxley, Treasurer of Red Cliffs & District Community Landcare Group. “On behalf of the Red Cliffs and District Community Landcare Group I would like to thank G. J. Gardner Mildura for our trees. They were planted on National Tree Day. It turned out to be a beautiful winter morning chilly and full of sunshine. We  successfully treated weeds, picked up litter (special thanks to our junior members), dug some holes and planted 400 native indigenous plants in the area before the afternoon rains came in”. Thank you Brad and Di, for your on-going support of our native environment. Your 615 trees have gone to great locations where they will be maintained for their first few vital years. 2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
