Damascus College, Mt Clear.

TREES PLANTED

Hi Colleen, Our students have been doing work on their CPDA (Christian Personal Development) which involves them in work for the community. In this case, a group of students spent the day down the back of the College, improving the natural environment. It was fairly easy to find space for the planting of 30 seedlings amongst the existing trees.

As you can see from the photo, there are still a lot of radiata pine seedlings, along with other weeds like gorse and ivy, growing wild on the hillside. So beyond planting, the group this time did quite a bit of hacking and sawing. There is lots more to do, but we hope that over time we will have a more bio-diverse hillside.   Regards David Neate (Sustainability Officer).

Damascus students look delighted to be working for the environment (well except for the chap in the cap).
These 30 trees have been planted on the behalf of the Ballarat Rotary Club of Wendouree. I gave a talk this week to Rotary on sustainability and when I heard that 30 members regularly turn up for the breakfast meeting, I decided to have a tree planted for each member. Rotary – a great community minded and pro-active organisation. Slainte – Colleen[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

‘Sometimes there are really simple things everyone can do to reduce their carbon footprint. When staying at a hotel, choosing to skip the room cleaning and having a tree planted instead, is one of those things’. Hugo from Hotels for Trees.

‘We’re thrilled to team up with Fifteen Trees in this crucial effort. Koalas are an iconic Australian species, and with increasing threats to their natural environment, it’s never been more important to ensure they have access to suitable habitats.Planting these trees is just the beginning of a broader initiative to safeguard their future’. 5,040 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in.
