Long-term supporters of our mission to support tree planting communities, the amazing Brigidine Southern Cross Community have helped us yet again with a purchase of 1,000 native shrubs, trees and plants.
We love our partnership with the Brigidine Southern Cross Community and are impressed with their passion to give. There is a long history of giving from these remarkable women, and we are not the only benefactors of this kindness, as their other philanthropy does ripple out to myriad of other organisations as well.
They are, as they state on their website, committed ‘to respond to the cry of Earth and peoples rendered poor’. And for that we respect them greatly.
This year, we distributed their trees to the Grow West community at Bacchus Marsh, VIC on Wurundjeri Country. One hundred and fifty (150) volunteers joined in on the planting day. It was a fantastic mix of volunteers who have supported many annual Grow West community planting days and people that are volunteering for the first time.
A large selection of plants (33 species) were planted on the day, including; Bacchus Marsh Wattle, Weeping Sheoak, Sticky Hop Bush, Fragrant Saltbush, Rock Correa, Silky Blue Grass and Kangaroo Grass. The vegetation in the area would have originally been Grassy Woodland of the Central Victorian Uplands.
The planting day focused on undertaking in-fill planting and providing good mid-story habitat for birds and insects. It will provide necessary habitat linkages in the landscape, with the Lerderderg River and other patches of vegetation nearby.
There are many native birds including raptors, such as Nankeen Kestrels, Peregrine Falcons and the mighty Wedged Tailed Eagles, that frequent this site. The site also has kangaroos travelling through.
Grow West would like to thank Fifteen Trees and their sponsors who have contributed seedlings to projects like ours. Without this type of support, we wouldn’t be able to have the significant impacts that we do in connecting habitat throughout the middle to upper Werribee catchment.

We plant these trees in loving memory of Sr Anne Boyd, who initiated a partnership between the Brigidine Sisters and Fifteen Trees, that then forged into a friendship.
