Team Building at G.J. Gardner Hobart.

TREES PLANTED

Ross Morley, Managing Director of G. J. Gardner Homes has been supporting our native environment (through Fifteen Trees) since 2013 and has now helped plant over 44,000 trees across Victoria and Tasmania. For every new home built, Fifteen Trees organises the planting of 15 trees in the local district. This year alone the project will see over 11, 310 trees planted by schools, landcare and various environmental groups. Team building brings people together by encouraging teamwork. Fun activities that help people see each other in a different light allow them to connect in different settings. One of the best reasons for team building is that the activities actually work to accomplish improved communication. A successful team building activity, will surely mean a more comfortable, successful workplace environment for any company. And when you combine team building and volunteer work (such as tree planting) – well you are ticking all boxes!!   Ludek Valta from GJG Hobart West understands the importance of team building activities. Last month, he headed out with his team to distribute and plant 630 trees at Davis Flat and Okines Community Garden, Tasmania. The event ‘It’s Our Backyard‘ was by all accounts, a huge success. Over 100 people came to the garden to talk to experts from CoastCare. People learnt about weed identification, how to choose the best native trees for their back yard and how to plant and care for their natives. Best of all, they got to go home with a selection of plants for their garden, courtesy of Ludek and his team.   Gardner Homes and Okine community members
The crew from GJ Gardner Homes joined us once again to plant many of the trees around the Community Garden and were able to revisit areas that they had helped us revegetate over the past two years.  We feasted on a lunch of wild bush foods consisting of a weedy green salad, Tasmanian Wild Green salad, native spinach pesto, carrot and samphire salad, native pepper damper and wallaby sausages cooked on the campfire.  As you can see from the photos, the weather was magnificent and the turnout so great that we all left the day saying ‘Let’s do it again next year’. We thank you for your support and we look forward to collaborating with you in the future. Claire Boost | Project coordinator | Okines Community Garden.
