The Acacia Tree. Restoring local wildlife habitat.

‘We spent the day weeding and planting a special River Red Gum, along with lots of native shrubs, wildflowers and grasses – all helping to restore habitat, support local biodiversity and create a healthier Kororoit Creek for the wildlife and community that call it home’. The Acacia Tree.

The Acacia Tree is an Australian-born, family-owned furniture brand committed to creating pieces that are made with care, built to last, and designed to be enjoyed for years to come.

Every piece in our collection is carefully selected with craftsmanship, durability, and timeless design in mind. As a family business, they value honest service, genuine relationships, and helping customers find furniture they can enjoy with confidence for years to come.

Every furniture order placed with The Acacia Tree equals 1 tree planted. This year, the Acacia team gathered with Friends of Kororoit Creek, Sunshine to help restore a small piece of urban neglect by planting 500 native trees, shrubs, grasses and groundcovers.

Kororoit Creek, Sunshine, VIC | 500 trees | 2026

The native trees, shrubs and grasses were planted right in the heart of Melbourne with Friends of Kororoit Creek and the team from The Acacia Tree.

We spent the day weeding and planting a special River Red Gum, along with lots of native shrubs, wildflowers and grasses – all helping to restore habitat, support local biodiversity and create a healthier Kororoit Creek for the wildlife and community that call it home.

Historically, the creek would have been dotted with scattered trees (including iconic River Red Gums) along with Kangaroo Grasses and a rich diversity of other grassland species as part of Melbourne’s western plains. Over time, the landscape has changed with urban development greatly changing the course of the creek along with any flora found there.

Today, along the banks of the creek, local volunteers are working to restore this biodiversity by reintroducing a wide variety of appropriate Indigenous plants, creating resilient habitat and helping the creek more closely resemble its natural ecological character.

The small but mighty team from The Acacia Tree.

The native plants provide essential habitat for a wide range of local bird and insect species, and the group have seen a noticeable increase in biodiversity across the sites since beginning revegetation. The trees also provide valuable shade and shelter for wildlife and the wider community. Trees are a vital part of the ecological structure of the creek corridor, working together with mid-storey and ground-layer plants to create a balanced and interconnected habitat. As they mature, they will become even more valuable, providing opportunities for hollows to form – creating critical nesting and shelter sites for native wildlife.

A heartfelt thank you to the crew from The Acacia Tree and Fifteen Trees for supporting the work of Friends of Kororoit Creek. Your contribution is helping us restore habitat along the creek, creating healthier ecosystems for local wildlife and a greener, more beautiful environment for our community. Every plant that goes into the ground carries so much hope, care and goodwill. With our ongoing commitment to nurturing these seedlings, your support will become part of an amazing transformation for Kororoit Creek! Something we can all be proud of!

Jessica Gerger | President | Friends of Kororoit Creek.

Kororoit Creek is a precious sliver of green winding through the highly developed suburbs of Brimbank in Melbourne’s west. This narrow habitat corridor provides a vital refuge for a remarkable range of wildlife. Across the sites, Friends of Kororoit Creek have recorded wallabies, eel, rakali (native rats), turtles, lizards, snakes, and countless species of birds, insects, spiders and fungi.

Together with Friends of Kororoit Creek, we thank Acacia Tree for their generous support with funding and for taking the time to come out and work alongside our volunteers.

Longlea, VIC | 42 trees | 2022

The trees were planted as part of a 300 vegetation project at Longlea, VIC by landcare member Jae Greene. They were a mixture of species indigenous to the district and included wattles (Gold-dust and Black), Drooping She-oaks, and eucalyptus (Redgum, Yellow Gum and Red Box). While the site had some remnants of Yellow Gums and Red Box, it had been cleared by past landholders and was in dire need of some serious revegetation work.

A morning of tree planting.

A big thank you to those who chipped in for the trees. They are helping us restore this beautiful land in Central Victoria.

Jae Greene | Member | Longlea Landcare

The trees will allow the local population of Sugar Gliders, possums, parrots, budgies, Honey Eaters and Spine-bills to expand out in their territory with more viable options for food and shelter.
