Hi Colleen, I’ve sent along a photo from the tree planting day at the Kinglake Lions Park on Tuesday. Seven volunteers from the Kevin Heinz Garden Center and members of the Kinglake Lions Club helped plant 260 trees and shrubs including 225 kindly donated by Flexicar and Fifteen Trees. This great work is helping to rehabilitate this park that was destroyed in the 2009 fires. Regards, Chris Cobern. Fire Recovery Landcare Coordinator.
Simon Bracken, from the Melbourne car sharing office of Flexicar has partnered with Fifteen Trees to help the devastated area of Kinglake to re-vegetate after the awful Black Saturday fires. One hundred and seventy three lives were taken that weekend (7th and 8th February 2009). This link will take you to a few of the Black Saturday stories, which has been put together by the ABC.
We can all remember the record breaking temperatures of those days and the horrors that unfolded. Giving trees to the Murrindindi Shire is a small gesture but one that comes from the heart.
Slainte – Colleen
