TREES PLANTED

135

Karl Waldron and his qualified team at Waldron Heating, Cooling and Hot Water have been installing systems to customers in the Ballarat and Western District for the past 30 years. Waldron also offers a clean, green and sustainable option when it comes to powering the home – solar power. And now adding to their green credentials, all vehicles in the Waldron fleet are running carbon neutral with the purchase of 15 trees for each vehicle. All up 135 trees for one of our favourite sites … Westgate Park.

Tree planting at Westgate Park.

Westgate Biodiversity and Bili Nursery recently organised a volunteers day to plant the trees (135) purchased by Ballarat Waldon Heating and Cooling. Our group really appreciates the support of both Waldon and Fifteen Trees. Their contribution is helping to improve the 40 hectare Westgate Park located right under the Westgate Bridge in the industrial area of Port Melbourne. The planting by our group will be ensure Westgate Park is going to benefit Melbourne’s future population by the efforts today. Thank you Karl Waldon for your support.

As a bit of history to the site, the Biodiversity Westgate Group has been engaged in a very successful re-vegetation program at the Park for the past 20 years. Every year, volunteers come in and plant 1,000s of trees. As these trees grow, the biodiversity of the area is vastly improving. It is becoming a popular place for the native birds and animals that choose to make this Park their home. The Park is managed by Parks Victoria with a lot of input from Westgate Biodiversity and Friends of Westgate Park. Over the years, there has been extensive plantings of indigenous trees and shrubs. As a result of the re-vegetation work, Westgate Park is ‘now a haven for a variety of bird species including stilts, ibis, spoonbills, ducks, gulls, coots, pelicans, swans and moorhens’.

Karl, next time you are traveling across the Westgate Bridge, look down. Some of those trees are yours!

Quality People and Training Solutions (QPTS) are always looking for ways in which they can care for people. As well as ways to care for the planet.

2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
