TREES PLANTED

PC_Logo_Primary_Tag_1_FA1 This year, Pana Barbounis (Pana Chocolate) has generously partnered with help Fifteen Trees plant 9,600 trees across Victoria and NSW. This is in addition to 10,000 trees last year and 1,000 trees the year before. Pana is slowly growing himself a forest! This time round, 1,500 trees were planted at the University of Newcastle by WetlandCare Australia. Louise Duff (Regional Manager) writes … ‘Thank you for the opportunity to participate in a Pana Chocolate and Fifteen Trees project. WetlandCare Australia worked in partnership with University of Newcastle Landcare Group and Conservation Volunteers Australia to complete the planting. We held a Landcare planting day at the University of Newcastle on Thursday 17 September 2015. The activity was attended by 29 people’. Other Pana Chocolate trees planted this year, were at Flowerdale (2,000), Brisbane Ranges (4,000) and Botany Bay (1,000). There are still more plantings to come at Ballina (100) and Kinglake (1,000). Thank you Pana for your continued support of our native environment. Over 20,000 trees in 3 years! These trees would not have been planted if not for your big-hearted contribution. According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
