IDL. Raising funds for the planet.

TREES PLANTED

80

Eighty native trees are now finding their way in the natural world, having been securely planted by one of our Landcare groups at the Brisbane Ranges, VIC on behalf of IDL, a beverage solutions organisation, based in Geelong, Victoria.

We are always impressed by the commitment of the organisations we collaborate with, and the lengths they go to ensure they are helping the environment. IDL is one such company. This impressive family-owned and operated beverage solutions provider located in the Moorabool Valley, just outside Geelong’s city centre on Wadawurrung Country, actually raised funds towards the 80 trees via hosting a fundraiser on World Environment Day.

When possible, we also attend to assist on the planting day.

As a large FMCG company, IDL develop, create, package and distribute a range of alcoholic beverages worldwide including wine, cider, seltzer, ready-to-drink spirit products and non-alcoholic products. Given their footprint is vast, it’s always wonderful to see a company determined to address this very issue by contacting us to support our community tree planting projects.

Brisbane Ranges | 80 trees | 2024

The trees were planted by the Brisbane Ranges Landcare Group at a property adjacent to the Brisbane Ranges National Park in early August.  These trees will help establish a biolink between the National Park and the small outcrops of native vegetation on private land. Thereby giving the native animals in the district a safer passage between the reserves and the park, as well as providing them with future homes and food sources.

Trees planted on the day included; wattles (Silver, Lightwood, Black, Myrtle, Golden, and Varnish), Banksias (Silver and Sweet), Bottlebrushes, Correas, eucalyptus species (River Red Gum, Broadleaf Peppermint, Yellow Gum, Red Stringybark, Yellow Box, Grey Box, Messmate, Red Box and Manna Gum), Hakeas and Tea-trees. A great variety to ensure a biodiverse planting. The trees were sourced from local indigenous nursery Birds In The Bush.

The Brisbane Ranges Landcare Group thoroughly appreciates the support of IDL. Our members are very thankful for the trees to help complete their revegetation projects for this year.  In addition, our annual planting at the Triangle Reserve is helping to establish a beautiful and beneficial community reserve that will be used and treasured for generations.

2100 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in. (Feature image from Mt Worth Landcare).

Individual actions really do matter! Individually we can really only make small differences to the world around us, but collectively our numbers add up. And if enough individuals are involved then forests can be grown!
