TREES PLANTED

Hi Colleen, Thank you so much for the trees. We planted them all on public land on the perimeter of an open playing field. A space that is shared by the Daylesford Dharma School and the Daylesford Tennis Club. We are changing the embankment from a lawn area (that has been chemically sprayed in the past) to a native habitat with mixed plantings that includes native grasses, shrubs and trees’. Cheers –  Andrea Furness.

Community project with all ‘hands on deck’.

With the Daylesford community behind her,  Andrea has coordinated the planting of 210 native trees on public land in the central spa region of Victoria. Many generous contributors have enabled this to occur. They include – Nabben who has carbon offset a flight and Thurgood who asked me to plant one tree on his behalf. Sr Margaret from the Brigidine Community in Cobram, Pip from Partycles (party supplies) and Siobhan from B’itch Body Oils (gorgeous body oils and washes) have all carbon offset their cars for 2012. Claire Coulson has bought 15 trees as gifts (Coulson and Cross) as has The Herd, who bought 15 trees for a valued member.  Asha from Angus & Celeste has donated $1.00 for every on-line purchase from their beautiful website and this quarter (Oct, Nov & Dec) has helped plant another 75 trees.

All up 203 trees! As Andrea planted 210 – I kicked in for the last 7.

Lots of activity, lots of generous support and lots of thanks to you all.

Cheers – Colleen

‘Sometimes there are really simple things everyone can do to reduce their carbon footprint. When staying at a hotel, choosing to skip the room cleaning and having a tree planted instead, is one of those things’. Hugo from Hotels for Trees.

‘We’re thrilled to team up with Fifteen Trees in this crucial effort. Koalas are an iconic Australian species, and with increasing threats to their natural environment, it’s never been more important to ensure they have access to suitable habitats.Planting these trees is just the beginning of a broader initiative to safeguard their future’. 5,040 TREES PLANTED

According to Sustainability Victoria, the average Australian lifestyle produces 15,000kg of carbon per year. If that sounds like a lot, it is! Over its lifetime, a tree can collect and store 268kg. This means, we each need to plant 58 trees per year to bring our individual carbon production down to zero. A little tricky for most of us to do in our own backyards, and this is where ‘A Subscription for the Planet’ comes in.
