This year alone, Brian and Maree Harrison (Harrison Funerals) have donated over 100 mature trees to Ballarat primary schools. The schools have benefited from the donation of trees for the school yard, providing shade to the students as well as a habitat for native species of insects and birds. Recently, Buninyong PS received 15 silver birches for their oval.
Harrison Funerals ‘strive to ensure that every family’s funeral experience is a positive one and through (their) care and service (they) are able to ease some of the grief and assist the healing process’. Harrison Funerals plant one mature tree on the behalf of every family who use their service.
At Buninyong Primary School we were very fortunate to receive 15 mature trees through the partnership between Harrison Funerals and Fifteen Trees. It was perfect timing for us, as recently we were forced to cut down a number of trees that were deemed unsafe, which meant reduced shade in the summer months. The trees we have planted will provide brilliant shade. The donation has also enabled us to plant a line of silver birch trees along the north side of our oval. This stretch has always looked very bland and was a hot part of the yard in the warmer months. When these trees grow, this line of trees will become a feature in the yard and be a lovely space for students to sit and play at any time of the year. Without this generous donation, we would not have been able to plant these trees which will beatify and enhance our school for many years to come.

All our mature trees are sourced from Avalon Nursery at Haddon, where the quality and range are fabulous. The trees are a mixture of native and exotic. As you can see, Bernie and the team have planted the trees with lots of love. The grove of silver birches is going to not only look spectacular but will also be providing shade for the students in years to come.
Thanks once again to Maree and Brian from Harrison Funerals for providing shade for countless of students, their parents and of course the teachers too.
