A major planting project.

Vicki from GP CMN.

Hello Colleen,

Your trees (375) form part of a much bigger project, one that has involved East Gippsland Landcare Network, Gippsland Plain Conservation Management Network (GP CMN), East Gippsland Rainforest Conservation Management Network (EGR CMN) and Trust for Nature. The site occupies a strategic river flat area at Wy Yung, just to the north of Bairnsdale. Altogether, around 11,000 trees have been planted and all the planting and remnant vegetation areas have been fenced off. Not only is the site large, but it’s unusual in that it contains a number of distinct plant communities, all of which are either rare or threatened.

The great thing about a big project of this nature is that it isn’t a one-off, in the sense that the trees go in and that’s the end of it. This project will continue to evolve.

The projects requires lots of people power.

Please convey to Melanie and Craig McInnes from G. J. Gardner my thanks for their assistance. I can envision that in 10 years time the site will have been transformed from a degraded, weed-choked grazing flat into an icon of natural resource management and landscape restoration.

Kind regards,

Paul Harvey, Group Coordinator, East Gippsland Landcare Network Inc.

It was great to see such a big project get support from G.J. Gardner Homes in Central Gippsland. This building company is to commended for their support to our native environment.
