Planted in

Hunter Wetlands Centre, NSW.

TREES PLANTED

The 600 rainforest trees, shrubs, reeds and sedges planted this month in the Hunter Wetlands Centre (north of Sydney) were propagated by the Hunter Wetland Centre and coordinated by WetlandCare Australia. A host of community volunteers such as the Watagans Wanderers Bush Walking Club and students from Hunter Christian College came to plant. The plants were kindly paid for by Hertz NSW who were keen to help out their local environment. Marketing Manager, Simon Bracken wanted the trees to be planted in a location that was a popular destination for national and overseas visitors. The Hunter Valley is a wetland area of international significance. The plants will improve the catchment by enhancing biodiversity and providing habitat for species such as Latham’s Snipe – an endangered migratory shore bird that travels from Japan to this region each summer. Louise Duff (Manager of the Hunter WetlandCare Australia) was delighted to receive the funds to enable the propagation and planting of the 600 plants. She has big plans for next year and with some luck we can entice Hertz to again be a part of the project.
