A good rally is just what I needed this week.
After talking to a number of business people who were disinterested in supporting tree planting, after listening to Tony Abbott calling for a ‘peoples revolt’ against a carbon tax and after hearing about the ‘shock jocks’ on the radio scaring people into thinking that a tax on carbon is going to distroy our economy – I was feeling not a little despondent.
However, at a Pro-Climate Rally on Saturday at Treasury Place amougst 7500 people, I got inspired to continue to ‘do my bit’ for the environment. The speakers (including GetUp national director Simon Sheikh) talked about the next 6 months being the most important for the environment. We all need to contact our local parliment members to let them know that we want them to impose a carbon tax on the 1000 biggest polluters in our country, and that the money raised must go directly to research and development of clean, green energy.

So here is my plan – to contact my local pollie and write a letter to the local paper, and to get back onto the phone to the CEO who stated that they didn’t want to carbon offset their fleet with Fifteen Trees because we were from rural Victoria – truth!
